On December 11, 2013 the Washington County Sheriff’s Department sponsored the 10th annual “Shop With A Cop” program. This year 84 underprivileged children from Washington County spent an evening with Washington County Law Enforcement Officers and volunteers.
The program involved 150 officers and volunteers from various law enforcement agencies throughout Washington County that donated their time to make the event a success.
Prior to shopping, children enjoyed a meal of hamburgers and hot dogs at the West Bend Moose Lodge. Each child was provided a gift card to be used to purchase Christmas gifts for their families at Wal-Mart. The gift cards were purchased through donations from individuals, businesses and organizations.
After shopping, everyone returned to the Moose Lodge for snacks and fun. The children played games and won raffle prizes while volunteers wrapped their gifts. Santa even stopped to greet all of the children.
I would like to personally thank you for donating towards the program. Whether it was a monetary donation, donation of food and gifts, or donating your time, it played a vital role in the success of the event. The “Shop With A Cop” program could not be successful without the involvement of the Washington County community.
The 11th annual “Shop With A Cop” is in the planning stages; please check back for more information.
