About Ashland County  

Ashland county is a northern county in Wisconsin. The county was established on March 27, 1860, in La Pointe County. It’s the second largest county in the state and borders the great lakes on its northern border. The county consists of the cities of Ashland and Mellen, several towns, and a village. The county has several islands in the great lakes. In the 2020 census, the county had 16,027 people. It has a white ethnic majority of 79.8% and 13.0% Native American, with other groups making up the remaining minority.  

Ashland has a wide variety of industries and is supported by airports, ports, and a good network of roads connecting it to the rest of the state. There is a good chunk of land in the county dedicated to agriculture. There are many Family-owned farms, food processors, and agriculture-related businesses throughout the county. Ashland has a rich history dating from the native Americans, the arrival of the French and British settlers, the world war, and many other historical events.

Ashland Sheriff’s office is the chief law enforcement agency in Ashland County. The roles of the sheriff’s office are well defined by the state laws to help him perform his duties effectively for the people. Some of the roles stored in the office include enforcement of the state laws and county ordinances, running the county jail as well as serving in both criminal and civil processes. The sheriff’s office is in charge of all the local jails within the county. Ashland County jail is the main detention center operated by the corrections department. All the officers working in the jail have been well trained and perform their duties in a professional manner. It’s due to the strict adherence to the Bureau of Adult Detention rules that the jail has maintained a 100% rating. The jail has a large number of inmates awaiting trial or serving short sentences for misdemeanors. In addition to incarceration, there are various programs, such as Electronic Home Detention, Work Release (Huber), and Work Time Credit and Community Service. The office also provides Alcohol and Drug Counseling, Anger management, Parenting Plus, G.E.D. education, full medical and psychological services, laundry, library, and commissary services to the inmates in the jail.

Ashland county has a solitary jail. Ashland County Jail has been in operation since 1994. It is run by 73 staff members. Its staff includes a doctor and a nurse to safeguard the health of the inmates in prison. Officers in the jail have been trained well to deal with uprisings in the detention center.
