 About Brown County   

Brown County, WI, is one of the two original counties in the State of Wisconsin. Located on Lake Michigan, Wisconsin, and part of the Green Bay, WI Metropolitan Statistical Area, the county covers a total of 616 sq mi (1,600 km2). More so, it is adjacent to Oconto County, Kewaunee County, Manitowoc County, Calumet County, Outagamie County, and Shawano County. And as of 2020, Brown County was the fourth most populous county in Wisconsin, with a population of 268,740 residents.  

Brown County was founded in 1818 and is named after Jacob Jennings Brown. Jacob was a former American army officer during the War in 1812. His successes saw him rise to become a general and was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal.   

Green Bay is the county seat of Brown County, WI. The city leans Democratic even though Brown County has voted for a Democratic presidential candidate in two elections only since 1968. The county seat has various amenities, including a courthouse, Sheriff’s Office buildings, airport, public school districts, golf courses, library, museum, and community gardens.  

About Brown County Sheriff’s Office  

Brown County Sheriff’s Office is the primary law enforcement agency in Brown County. It is located at 2684 Development Drive, Green Bay, WI 54311, and is reachable via telephone at (920) 448-4200 or fax at (920) 448-4206. Headed by a Sheriff, the department protects citizens and investigates crime instances in the county. In turn, the Sheriff’s Department carries out various functions as detailed below: –  

  1. Protection – Prevents, detects, apprehends, prosecutes, and detains anyone violating local or state laws.  
  2. Investigative – Interviews, interrogates, processes crime scenes, and researches criminal matters.  
  3. Jail Custody – Facilitates the jail custody of offenders in secure, safe, and humane conditions  
  4. Patrols – Conducts regular patrols geared toward protecting life and property in Brown County, WI  
  5. Support Services – Maintains records, manages county data, facilitates inmate transportation, serves legal documents, fingerprinting, and provides court security  
  6. Upholding Standards – Supervises internal affairs and departmental training, facilitates employment background checks and community education  

Apart from the above functions, Brown County Sheriff’s Office runs the Cadets-Sheriff’s Youth Program that mentors, trains, and prepares youth for a career in law enforcement. Also, the public can take part in a 10-week training course on criminal justice scheduled at the Sheriff’s Office. Other programs include the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), a program teaching 5th graders the importance of living a drug-free life.

Brown County Inmate Search   

Brown County Sheriff’s Office operates the Brown County Jail at 3030 Curry Lane, Green Bay, WI 54311. It is a mixed security housing facility for up to 735 adult offenders and 15 juveniles. The inmates reside in 11 pods and are supervised by a jail administrator assisted by a team of 160 sworn and non-sworn jail staff. Also, Brown County Jail runs the Electronic Monitoring Program, giving inmates Huber privileges. That way, the inmates may serve their jail time out jail while wearing electronic bracelets with GPS capabilities. The bracelet is also able to detect the amount of alcohol consumed by the offender.
