Calumet is a county whose primary location is in Wisconsin. A 2020 census report shows the County is home to up to 50,000 individuals. Its county seat goes by the name Chilton. Calumet County started in 1836 and officially went through the organization process in 1850. It’s also part of the Appleton, WI Metropolitan statistical area.
The name of this County came from the term calumet. It’s a French term that refers to ceremonial pipes. These pipes were common among the Native Americans who lived on the shores of Lake Winnebago. Most of the early occupants of the Holyland region were people from various parts of Germany.
The entire western boundary of the County exists in the Lake Winnebago area. The other popular water bodies in the area include Sheboygan and Manitowoc Rivers.
