About Chippewa County, WI   

Chippewa County, WI, is a historic county in the WI Metropolitan Area, bordering Rusk County, Taylor County, Clark County, Eau Claire County, Dunn County, and Barron County. It is famous for the Ojibwe people, a tribal population of Native Americans who inhabited the region before the county was established in 1853. More so, the county covers a total area of 1,041 sq. km, a third of which is forests. And as of the 2020 national census, 66,297 people were living in Chippewa County, up to 91.8% being of white origin.  

Chippewa Falls is the largest city and the county seat in Chippewa County. The city boasts of a state park, bird museum, and logging camp, among other recreational facilities. Constructed in 1949, the county jail holds up to 201 male and female offenders suspected of violating local and state laws in Chippewa County. These are fresh arrests by local law enforcement agencies, prisoners serving their short sentences at the county jail as ordered by the circuit court, or offenders who fail to settle their bond as they await the completion of their trial hearing. Here, the inmates reside in safe, secure, and humane living conditions while undergoing rehabilitation programs to minimize their chances of recidivism.
