About Grant County  

Grant county is a county located on the southwestern side of Wisconsin. It is the 8th largest county by area in Wisconsin, covering 1,183 square miles. The county is named after the county river, and its county seat is Lancaster. It is among the few counties in the state that borders more than one state, Ohio and Illinois. The county has a population of 51,938, according to the 2020 census. A majority of the citizens in the county are white, accounting for 96.6%, followed by white and Hispanics, who account for 1.4% of the population each.  

The per capita income is $52,958. Most of the county’s earnings are on the back of Agricultural activities throughout the county. Grant has been heavily involved in Lead mining, agriculture, and education. So many agricultural-based communities in Grant County made the county Wisconsin’s best-performing county in beef production, swine production, soya beans, corn, eggs, and dairy goat farming. Two post-secondary academic institutions in the county have helped develop human capital in various sectors, such as engineering.  

About Grant County Sheriff’s Office  

The grant county sheriff is responsible for investigating crimes, bringing suspects to book, gathering evidence, and ensuring general safety in the county. The current Sheriff in Grant County is Nate Dreckman, whom a captain and a communications supervisor assist. The position of the Sheriff in Grant county is an elective position following the Wisconsin State laws.  

The county employs some of the best hands as deputies, sergeants, jailers, and dispatchers in the office of the Sheriff. The officers in the department are well numbered and have the exclusive right to bargain for raises through the Wisconsin Professional Police Association/Law Enforcement Employee Relations Division. All the officers in the department are well trained to handle any emergencies that happen within the county.  

The Sheriff’s office is also in charge of the Sheriff’s sales which are held in the county courthouse. You can bid some of the property sold off at the Sheriff’s sales, though you have to be keen when purchasing off the property in the sale as you can only own the property after you receive the property deed.  

The deputies, sergeants, and captains working in the Sheriff’s department have been equipped with different equipment to help them handle emergencies, such as vehicles, radios, guns, and the like. Through specialized training, the officers are trained to hand serve high-risk warrants, to be expert shooters, for hostage negotiations, to be team medics, and so on. The team endeavors to execute its mandate without a loss of life or injury to the citizens.

Grant County Inmate Search  

Grant county jail is the main jail in the county. The jail was opened in 1962 on 1013 North Adams Street in Lancaster, WI. Grant county jail is a minimum county jail. It has a 55-bed capacity and offers reintegration for male condemned criminals. The jail has 59 staff members and an average of 116 bookings.  

The jail also uses some of its staff in the in-office work lines, such as kitchen, clothing, laundry, and other activities. The jail recognizes the Huber privilege, meaning inmates in the jail may go to work while incarcerated. However, only inmates who have been granted the Huber and have verified employment may exercise the right.
