About the County Sheriff’s Office  

Green County Sheriff’s office is a full-service law enforcement organization led by Sheriff Jeff Skatrud. Working with a competent team of specialists, the County Sheriff promises to make Green County a great place to live and work. The Green County Sheriff’s office operates as a full-service entity with different divisions and competent teams. The multi-department office has a qualified team to plan, direct, organize and control the general operations of varied office functions.  

The Sheriff’s office has various statutory responsibilities, including handling criminal investigations, administrative services, 24-hour road patrol, and civil processes. The Sheriff and his team also issue warrants, manage the Green County jail, and keep inmate records. The Sheriff’s office provides patrolling services to all the two cities, 16 townships, and five villages in Green County.  

They’re the county department with the legal responsibility of rendering security services to New Glarus, Albany, Brooklyn, and Monticello when local officers are out of duty. Key facilities within the Sheriff’s office include the jail and a 911 county communication center.

Green County Jail is the largest regional maximum jail in Green County, with a bed capacity of 687 inmates. The facility is home to 603 inmates housed in different housing units under the supervision of 147 staff members. The jail operates under the leadership of the Green County Sheriff with support from other law enforcement agencies such as the Federal U.S Marshal. This jail facility also holds over 509 federal inmates every day. It’s both a male and female correctional facility, with over 80% of residents being men. 

As a maximum security prison, Green County prison houses maximum security prisons waiting for trial or prisoners with no work release privileges. It also holds minimum security prisoners with Huber law/ work release and medium security prisoners. In addition, Green County jail houses inmates being processed for jail.
