Iowa County, WI, was founded in 1830 and named after the Iowa people. More so, the county was once under the Michigan Territory, covering a total land area of 768 sq mi (1,990 km2). Its latest upgrades shall increase its holding capacity to 102 beds, six holding cells, a medical area, kitchen, inmate program rooms, and recreational areas.

The Sheriff’s Department runs the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E) program that teaches students to resist drugs and avoid engaging in violent lifestyles. Also, there is the Santa Cop program that seeks to instill a positive attitude in the community toward the law enforcement agency. And the Stuff the Squad program, a food drive collecting necessities for the less fortunate families in the county.
