About the County Sheriff’s Office

The Kewaunee County Sheriff’s office is headed by Sheriff Matt Joski, the principal law enforcer for the whole county. He has to maintain liaison between the sheriff’s office and county functions while ensuring the sheriff’s department operates smoothly. With the support of the Chief Deputy, Jason Veeser, Matt Joski works tirelessly to maximize the efficient operations of the county sheriff’s department.

Chief Deputy Jason Veeser gets and executes orders from the Sheriff’s office and ensures all lieutenants execute their duties submissively. After the Chief Deputy is the lieutenants’ division headed by Lt. Eric Pieschek and Lt. Chris VanErem. Lt. Pieschek oversees investigative and patrol divisions while commanding all law enforcement processes. Lt. Eric VanErem administers the Emergency Dispatch and jail divisions. Additionally, he has the statutory responsibility of administering the Kewaunee County Jail.

The lieutenants delegate authority to the county’s four sergeants, who administer operations of the sergeant deputies. Sgt. Erin Rouer and Sgt. Chelsea Broomhall administer the Emergency Dispatch and jail division while Sgt. Lawrence Ostermeier and Sgt. Dustin Smidle supervise the patrol division operations.

Running the Emergency Dispatch and Jail division are fifteen uniformed deputies serving as jail officers in the jail while handling emergency dispatch roles in the communication center. These deputies are assigned roles of maintaining security in the prison while providing care and custody to the jail inmates. The deputies book arrestees and escort prisoners from and to court. These deputies also handle non-emergency and emergency communications.

The most noticeable division of the Sheriff’s Office is the Patrol division, serving over 20,000 citizens with quality and effective services. They respond to calls and provide quality patrol services to the county’s 345 square land miles. The division is divided into south and north patrol, with the shift sergeant squad handling duty supervisor duties and assisting road officers.

The system enables community members to get updated records of an inmate’s arrest, release dates, sentencing terms and court documents.
