Marquette County is a county situated in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The county was created in 1836 from the Wisconsin Territory and officially gazetted in 1848. Montello serves as the county seat to Marquette county, while the adjacent counties include Waushara county, Green Lake county, Columbia county, and Adams county. According to the 2020 census, the total population is 15,592, and the population density is 34.2 inhabitants per square mile (13.2km). Moreover, there are 9,758 housing units at an average density of 21.4 per square mile (8.3km).
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Marquette County has a total area of 464 square miles (1,200km), where the land occupies 456 square miles (1,180km) while the water occupies 8.7 square miles (23km) (1.9%). The Mexican River, Buffalo Lake, and Puckaway Lake lie within the county, and the highest altitude in the county is a rocky area popularly identified as Mt Shaw.
Marquette County Sheriff’s Office
Joseph R.Konrath is currently the head of the Marquette County Sheriff’s office. The office is responsible for 911 emergency, criminal investigation, jail custody, Emergency management, court services, accident reports, public records, sheriff sales, and traffic enforcement. In addition, the office is in charge of patrolling any unincorporated areas of the county or areas not covered by the municipal police force, enforcing legal judgments, including repossessions, tax delinquencies, and repossessions. Civil Division
The civil division is housed at the Marquette County courthouse, and its main aim is to provide a wide range of quality services to the citizens of Marquette County. In addition, the division offers compensatory services, fingerprinting for teaching certificates, broker’s licenses, financial institutions, passports, adoptions, and the processing of concealed handgun permits. The civil division is categorized into two branches: the notice and enforcement processes. The main functions of the notice process are to notify persons about ongoing legal proceedings. Support Services
The support service is the pillar of the sheriff’s office. This division includes the 911 communications and dispatch center, records, property and evidence, information technology, recruitment, and training. In addition, the division has various volunteer programs, including neighborhood watch, search and rescue, reserve deputies, and mounted posse.
Correction Division
The correction division is in charge of providing a safe and secure jail facility that operates professionally, respectfully, and efficiently. In addition, the division offers basic needs to the inmates and provides transport for court appearances, work programs, and rehabilitation programs while in custody.
Corrections Programs Division
The correction programs division works hand in hand with the corrections division. Its primary duties are to provide inmate programs, supervise inmates assigned to alternative sanctions, and manage the sheriff’s inmate work group. Moreover, deputies in the corrections and corrections programs division can elect to join special teams such as the Dive Team and S.W.A.TS.W.A.T.
Detectives
The detective division investigates prominent cases involving individual crimes, property and narcotics, and computer crimes. The primary goal of the detective division is to clear the innocent and assist in the prosecution of the guilty while maintaining the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and professionalism.
Criminal Patrol Division
The criminal patrol division offers professional deputy response, investigation of law enforcement-related emergencies, and reports of illegal activity. The main aim of the division is to help prevent injuries, deaths, and property loss due to driver inattention, careless driving, and intoxication. Moreover, the patrol deputies work on special assignments and finally become part of the special teams such as marine patrol, forest and mountain patrol, W.S.A.T.W.S.A.T., Dive Team, and the K-9 Unit.
In addition, within the criminal patrol division is the Animal Control Unit. The Unit is responsible for offering animal control services, including shelter, food, and medical attention for all of Marquette County. The Unit fosters an environment of care for animals found running at large, abandoned, and strays. The Unit’s primary goal is to reunite these animals with their owners or find new, loving homes and families for those in need. In addition, the employees are well trained in proper animal care and handling the animals with much care for their safety and well-being. Moreover, the Unit provides licensing and routine low-cost veterinary clinics such as vaccinations and spraying.
