Oconto County is a county found in the U.S state of Wisconsin. The county was founded in 1851 and named after the Oconto River. Its county seat is Oconto, and it neighbors Marinette County, Door County, Brown County, Shawano County, Menominee County, Langlade County, and Forest County. This county is part of the Green Bay, WI, metropolitan statistical area and the Green Bay- Shawano, WI combined statistical area.
According to the census of 2020, the total population is 38,965, while the density is 39.1 inhabitants per square mile (15.1km). In addition, there are 23754 housing units at an average density of 23.8 per square mile (9.2km). The racial combination of the county is 93.5% White, 1.3% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.2% African American, 0.8% from other races, and 3.8% from two or more races. Nationality, the population is 2.2% Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Geographically, from the statistics taken from the U.S. Census Bureau, Oconto County has a total area of 1149 square miles (2980km), of which land occupies 998 square miles (2580km), and 151 square miles (390km) (13%) is water.

Dispatch Division
The Oconto County emergency dispatch center directly connects citizens and the county’s emergency response services. In addition, the dispatch team screen and handle all calls for service and offer help for all field operations. The dispatchers must be able to handle calls for assistance, monitor multiple radio frequencies, dispatch calls to the police units, access various local and federal databases, assign report numbers, and track officers’ activity in the field. The Oconto county emergency dispatch center’s mission is to work with the police, fire, and medical personnel to reinforce the commitment to excellence and provide quality customer care to the citizens, responders, and visitors.
Administrative Division
The primary duty of the administration division is to employ deputies, jail staff, telecommunications officers, and support staff. The Oconto County sheriff’s office has 30 deputies, 29 jail staff, ten telecommunications officers, and three support staff. In addition, the annual operating budget is approximately 7.5 million dollars. The office operations are between Mondays to Friday between 8 am-4 pm.
Investigations Division
The investigative team is responsible for conducting investigations of any matter allocated to them. The team interviews the witnesses, suspects, and victims. In addition, they identify and collect evidence of all types and employ investigative tactics requiring specialized training, including drug, arson, and death investigations.
Correction Division
The Oconto County sheriff’s office aims to provide the proper and humane treatment of the inmates incarcerated in the facility. The jail is usually run under the sheriff’s authority, following Wisconsin statutes and the department of corrections administrative code.
Patrol Division
The patrol deputies investigate all citizens’ complaints or requests for help that may come to their attention.
