Outagamie County is a county located in the northeast region of the U.S state of Wisconsin. The county was founded in 1852 and named after the historic Meskawki (fox) Indians. The county seat of Outagamie is Appleton, while the adjacent counties include Shawano County, Brown County, Calumet County, Winnebago County, and Waupaca County. Outagamie County is incorporated in the Appleton, WI, metropolitan statistical area, which is included in the Appleton-Neenah Oshkosh, WI, combined statistical area.
According to the statistics from the census of 2020, the population is 190705 people, while the population density is 299.1 inhabitants per square mile (115.5km). Moreover, there is 79131 housing units at an average density of 124.1 per square mile (47.9km). On the other hand, the racial makeup of the county is 86% White, 3.5% Asian, 1.6% Native American, 1.6% African American, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 2.0% from other races, and 5.3% from two or more races while ethnically the population was 4.9% Hispanic or Latino.
Geographically, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 645 square miles (1670km), where land occupies 638 miles (1650km), and water occupies 7.1 square miles (18km) (1.1%).
Outagamie Sheriff’s Office
Sheriff Clint C. Kriewaldt heads the Outagamie County Sheriff’s office. The mission of the sheriff’s office is to work in partnership with the community and other public service agencies to protect and serve the citizens of Outagamie County. In addition, the county upholds various values such as professionalism, respect, integrity, dedication, and excellence. The sheriff’s office is open to the citizens from 8 am-4.30 pm.
The sheriff’s office divisions work together for better services to the citizens of Outagamie County. The divisions are as follows:
Administrative Division
The administrative division has various staff, such as the sheriff, chief deputy, corrections division captain, law enforcement division captain, and four lieutenants. The team is in charge of directing and managing the 190 full-time and 25 part-time department employees offering law enforcement services to Outagamie County citizens. Moreover, the administrative staff works with the department’s account manager to develop and deliver the annual budget. The revenues and expenditures are keenly monitored to offer the highest quality and level of service ideally.
Law Enforcement Division
The law enforcement division consists of 66 full-time and 25 part-time officers. The personnel in this division are assigned to units that include; Uniformed patrol, investigations, and civil process.
Special Investigation Unit
The special investigation unit performs various duties such as search warrants, investigates criminal cases, and participates in community presentations, covering topics such as heroin abuse, threat assessment, residential or business safety, and daily trends faced by the law enforcement community. The unit has several units such as narcotic investigations, law enforcement specialists, school resource officers, crime prevention and evidence officer, domestic abuse, bomb squad, and special investigation unit.
Uniformed patrol
All other divisions support the patrol unit in the sheriff’s office. The units incorporate all resources, professionalism, and training to provide Outagamie County citizens with the best services. In addition, the patrol units utilize community-oriented policing philosophies whenever possible. The officer’s patrol county highways and town roads, investigate traffic accidents and criminal activity and enforce state laws and county ordinances. Under the uniformed division, several subdivisions include the criminal justice unit, water safety patrol, K-9 unit, rescue recovery dive team, snowball patrol, emergency response team, and airport security.
Communications Division
The Outagamie County public safety communication center is the main point of contact for citizens who need assistance. The division has 31 full-time telecommunicates, four sergeants, and one staff sergeant. In addition, telecommunicates handles all incoming 911 calls to the sheriff’s office for police, fire, or emergency medical services. The communication center dispatches law enforcement agencies, fire departments, ambulance services, and first responder groups.
Civil Process Division
The Outagamie County sheriff’s office work on all type of legal papers such as; family court papers, restraining orders, injunctions, writs, and eviction papers. Correction Division
