Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office

The Ozaukee county sheriff’s office is a 24-hour law enforcement agency consisting of the jail division, patrol division, detective bureau, emergency management division, and dispatch center.

  • Mission

The Ozaukee County sheriff’s office’s mission is to serve the citizens of Ozaukee County via a partnership with the community by offering professional law enforcement services through fair and ethical enforcement of the law, ensuring the rights and dignity of all.

  • Vision

Ozaukee County sheriff’s office’s vision is to remain one of the safest places to live, work and grow. Hence, the office achieves this by serving the needs of the public through community partnerships, professional law enforcement, technology, and ethical leadership.

Under the sheriff’s office, various divisions work hand in hand with the office. They include:

Civil Process

The civil process division is in charge of the sheriff’s office to serve or execute, according to law, all processes, writs, precepts, and orders issued or made by the lawful authority according to Wisconsin State Statute. The sheriff’s office can only service papers on individuals or entities in Ozaukee County. In addition, the fees for the service of civil process are set by state statute unless otherwise established by the county Board.

Jail Division

The correction/jail division is responsible for providing inmates with a safe and secure environment. The Ozaukee County jail does not tolerate sexual harassment, sexual abuse, or any misconduct within the facility. Hence, the jail staff provides a correctional environment free from threat for all incarcerated inmates in custody by maintaining a prevention, detection, and response program.

Emergency Management Division

The main aim of the emergency division is to minimize the loss of life, injuries, and damage to property, the environment, and critical infrastructure and facilitate coordinated response and recovery actions following a disaster or emergency in Ozaukee County. In addition, the division uses an all-hazards approach, such as tornadoes, floods, fires, accidents that involve chemical spills, train derailments, disasters, terrorist attacks, or other events that are dangerous to people and property. The division engages in planning, training, and coordinating between response and recovery agencies to ensure timely and effective preparedness, response, and recovery efforts.

Detective Bureau

The detective bureau is primarily responsible for the investigation of felony crimes and misdemeanor crimes that are complex or involve suspects or witnesses residing outside Ozaukee County. In addition, the division may work in a joint effort with other local, state, or federal agencies when a crime or series of crimes in a specific geographical area of the state is being committed by one or more individuals identified as being responsible for those crimes. Moreover, the detective bureau handles all death investigations, including homicides, suicides, and traffic fatalities. The division created a CORE committee of area police representatives and agents from the probation and parole department to oversee the new sex offender release program. Another duty the division performs is assessing potential community threats to the community to determine the appropriate level of community notification.

Patrol Division

The Ozaukee County sheriff’s patrol division comprises 18 patrol deputies and four patrol sergeants who offer patrol services 24 hours daily. The services include coverage of 501 miles of interstate, state, county, and town roads. In addition, the patrol division provides full law enforcement services for all townships, unincorporated villages, and municipalities that do not maintain a law enforcement agency. The division responds to and investigates all criminal activity reported or observed, such as domestic violence, sexual assault, disturbance, death, theft, damage to property, fire, mental illness, narcotics, trespassing, wanted persons, 911, and alarms. While responding to calls for services, the patrol division is called upon for the service of civil process and arrests, warrants, as well as special duties, including DARE, training, and conducting background investigations.
