Polk County is a county in the United States in Wisconsin. This county was created in 1853, and its county seat is Balsam Lake. According to the United States Census Bureau, the county had a population of 44977 as of the 2020 census, with a population density of 49.2 inhabitants per square mile. The racial makeup of this county is as follows: 93.5 % are white, 0.9% are Native American, 0.5% of Asian descent, and 0.4% are Black. Polk County has a total area of 956 square miles comprising 914 square miles of land and 42 square miles of water.   

This county is in the heart of Indianhead country in northwestern Wisconsin and offers numerous attractions to visitors alongside its residents. The Scenic Riverway and St. Croix Wild form the county’s western boundary, and the river bluffs abruptly usher in the rolling countryside. Polk County flaunts numerous lakes and flows with rivers that usually offer boating, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing.

The Sheriff’s offers several services in Polk County, including:  

  • Evidence or Property: In case the Polk County Sheriff’s Office is currently holding property belonging to or taken from you, contact one of the property custodians before going to the Sheriff’s Office to pick up the property. This is to ensure that one of the custodians is available and all requirements regarding the release of property are met. If you do not call, you may not get the property back without a return trip. However, this Office does not release some property such as illegal weapons, contraband, and property utilized in crimes.  

The Office only releases property confiscated as evidence after receipt of a release directing property release by the District Attorney’s Office or a written court order directing the release of the property.  

  • Snowmobile Safety: The function of snowmobile safety training is to expose new users to standard snowmobile safety, laws, ethics, responsibilities, and mechanical procedures. Any resident born on or after 1/1/1985 and is 12 years must have completed and received a snowmobile safety certificate to operate a snowmobile in this county.   
  • Kids DNA: KIDS is a system parents use to collect and store their kid’s DNA so that a DNA sample is available in case of an emergency.

The Polk County Booking Report typically displays an offender’s booking details, including the booking date, booking time, offender’s name, age, city, statute, and statute description. On the other hand, the Polk County Inmate Roster shows a list of inmates currently incarcerated at Polk County Jail. If you want information regarding an incarcerated loved one in the county jail, click the “Inmate Roster” on the jail’s official website. It typically shows the inmate’s full name, age, ID number, booking date and time, and charges (statute and description).

State Prison Inmate Search  

Offenders arrested and convicted of serious felonies such as murder or rape within Polk County are sent to state prison. Here, their custody falls under the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. The agency’s inmate search tool is an online search portal accessible from the official Department’s website. Click “Offender Information” on the website navigation menu.
