Some offenders in county jails may be transferred to a state prison once their fate is determined after trial. It is essential to note that all offenders convicted of serious felonies like rape and murder are sent to a state prison where they serve long-term sentences, more than a year. The Wisconsin Department of Corrections manages all state prisons.

To locate an inmate under the custody of WIDOC, click “General Information” and then choose “Locating an Inmate” from the options available; you can then utilize the Inmate and Offender Search tool to locate an inmate sentenced to state prison and currently housed within a DOC facility.
