Price County was established as an act of the State Legislature on March 3, 1879, from parts of Lincoln and Chippewa Counties. Per the bill’s provisions to create it, this County was attached to Taylor County for judicial purposes. Then, the District Attorney, Sheriff, and Clerk of Court of Taylor County served the newly established Price County. Therefore, Price County needed to appoint a Deputy Sheriff. Hence, Sheriff Dennis Needham of Taylor County appointed Chris Dardis of Phillips as the first Deputy Sheriff to fulfill the above necessity. Eli L. Urquhart was elected Sheriff of Taylor County and served Taylor and Price Counties between 1880 and 1881 in the November 1879 election.

After the separation of the judicial system of the two counties, the County held the first election for the Office of the Sheriff on November 18, 1881. Alexander W. Bond of the Republican ticket won with 135 votes of the 294 votes cast in the election and took Office as the first elected Sheriff of Price County on February 18, 1882.
