Racine County is located in southeastern Wisconsin. It is situated along Lake Michigan, approximately 25 miles south of Milwaukee and 60 miles north of Chicago. The County’s population was 197727 as of the 2020 census making it the fifth most populous county in the state. Its county seat lies in Racine. Racine County was established in 1836 and was part of the Wisconsin Territory. It houses offenders awaiting trial or those serving short sentences, usually less than a year. The monthly average of total bookings in this correctional facility is 332 inmates.   

The Racine County Jail (RCJ) is one of Wisconsin’s most extensive pre-detention facilities, with maximum bed space for 876 offenders. It lies on an entire city block in the downtown area of Racine, complete with its health and mental health services, privatized food, and commissary services, among other programs.

The facility has Jail Inmate Search (Inmate Locator) tool that allows interested parties to find out if their loved one is at the jail. Typically, this site requires you to provide the inmate’s Last Name, First Name, Gender, and Date of Birth.   

If you do not find your incarcerated loved one using this search tool, you are advised to call the jail at (262) 636-3929 or fax at (262) 636-3470. The jail staff will require you to provide the inmate’s full name and the accurate identification number for the search.   

On the other hand, the facility also allows you to search for an inmate using the Victim Notification Network (VINE). The Office of Victim Services and Programs (OVSP) provides the Wisconsin VINE county jails in partnership with the Racine County Sheriff’s Office. This service is anonymous and provides information and notification regarding offenders in the county jail.
