Richland County is located in the United States state of Wisconsin and has its county seat at Richland Center. It was established in 1840 in the Wisconsin Territory and organized in 1850. The County is named after its high quality of soil. According to the US Census Bureau, this area had a population of 17304 as of 2020. It has a total area of 589 square miles, including 586 miles of land and 3.1 square miles of water. Richland County is divided into 21 supervisory districts, and every district has a representative on the Board of Directors.

In 1851, Ira S. Haseltine created Richland Center, the county seat. This City is situated on Hwy 14 between LaCrosse and Madison in the Ocooch Mountains or the center of the Driftless Area. It is a proud host of agricultural, retail, industrial, and medical enterprises. Additionally, it has two industrial parks hosting several businesses specializing in packaging, transportation, food products, and metal machining.

Richland County Sheriff’s Office

The Richland County Sheriff’s Office is located at 181 W Seminary St, Richland Center, WI 53581, United States. The Sheriff’s Office is the County’s chief law enforcement agency in Richland County. It is responsible for promoting public safety in the County by managing county jail offenders and public policing. Additionally, it is in charge of patrolling the unincorporated areas of Richland County or the areas not covered by the municipal Police Force. It enforces legal judgments such as repossessions, tax delinquencies, and foreclosures.

The Wisconsin Constitution establishes the Office of the Sheriff as an elected office in the County with a four-year term. Therefore, the Sheriff is a constitutional office in Richland County and is the overall chief law enforcement officer. On a case-by-case basis, the Sheriff can assert leadership, direction, and control because of their superior position as a chief law enforcement officer. Therefore, local police officers must dutifully cooperate. Local law enforcement personnel are subject to Sheriff’s command even when serving within their municipal boundaries when the Sheriff exercises a call to aid. They have concurrent authority with local law enforcement regardless of municipal boundaries.

The law requires the Sheriff’s Office to execute additional duties and responsibilities on behalf of Richland County. One of these expanded duties includes operating the County’s Communications Center alias Dispatch for fire services, ambulance services, emergency medical responders, and all law enforcement within Richland County. They are also responsible for all Emergency Management duties, including the County’s Emergency Medical Services.

Richland County Inmate Search

Richland County inmate records refer to a compilation of official data on incarcerated individuals in correctional facilities within Richland County. Generally, inmate records display general information regarding an offender, including the inmate’s full name, age, race, gender, date of birth, registration number, mugshots, and other non-confidential biodata. Parties who obtain these records can expect to view the offender’s sentencing information, such as the class and the type of offense, the location of the jail holding the inmate, and the County in which the case was tried. According to Wisconsin laws and statutes, the general public can access and obtain these records upon request.

One must be aware of their holding facility to search for information regarding an inmate. There are numerous ways to locate an inmate depending on where they are held, as follows:

County Jail Inmate Search

Richland County Jail maintains an online inmate roster in PDF format available on the jail’s official website. It updates this roster daily, ensuring that it displays all booked inmates. Typically, this inmate roster has essential identifying information regarding the offenders, including their full names, charges, date booked, date of birth, age, race, front mugshot, court date, case number, and identification number.

In case you do not find your person of interest in this roster, it is advisable to contact the jail. You can call and speak to a jail staff inquiring about your incarcerated loved one on 608-647-2106.

Alternatively, the public can utilize the Wisconsin VINE system to find information about an inmate’s custody status. This system allows victims of crimes and interested parties to use the telephone or the internet to search for inmate information. You can register with VINE to receive e-mail or SMS notifications when an inmate’s custody status changes.

The VINE toll-free number for the Wisconsin VINE system is 888-868-4631. This service gives crime victims the right to know about their inmate’s custody status.

State Prison Inmate Search

If your loved one is held at a state prison, you can locate them using the Wisconsin Department of Corrections’ official website. This agency’s Inmate or Offender Search allows you to search for inmates by providing their full names and DOC number.
