Rock County is located in the United States state of Wisconsin. It is one of the oldest counties in Wisconsin since it developed around the Rock River, the area’s first major economic driver. Janesville and Beloit, located on the river, are the major regional economic centers; they have most of the County’s shopping and entertainment. The county seat is Janesville. Rock County is part of the Janesville-Beloit, WI, Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is also included in the Madison-Janesville-Beloit, WI Combined Statistical Area.

Rock County was established in 1836 as a territorial county from Milwaukee County on December 7, 1836. Later, it was fully organized on February 19, 1839. It is named for the Rock River bisecting the County from north to south. As of 2020, Rock County had a population of 163687. It has a total area of 726 square miles comprising 718 square miles in land and 8 square miles in water.

Rock County Sheriff’s Office

Troy Knudson is the current Sheriff of Rock County. The Rock County Sheriff’s Office is located at 200 East US Highway 14, Janesville, WI 53545. It comprises numerous divisions responsible for various functions.

This Office’s Civil Processes Office is responsible for serving several kinds of legal documents. An individual or business requesting the Sheriff’s Office to serve any legal document must complete the Civil Process Worksheet or include a cover letter bearing instructions for service. It is essential to note that a deposit by check, cash, money order, or order of indigence must accompany the legal papers submitted for service. To reduce the number of attempts, the plaintiff should include as much information as possible regarding the individual or business they want to serve. This way, they can accomplish a successful service on the first attempt.

The Sheriff’s Office, the chief law enforcement agency in the County, is in charge of community corrections. It has programs that offer a cost-effective way to impose sentences on low-risk inmates sentenced to jail and meet the provided qualifications. Offenders can maintain employment and family relationships while serving their time and giving back to the community. The alternatives to jail incarceration usually include Electronic Monitoring, the Workender Program, Work Release alias Huber Law, and the Rock County Education and Criminal Addictions Program.

The Emergency Management Bureau (RCEM) within the Office of the Sheriff assists Rock County in planning, recovery, response, and mitigation efforts for emergencies, disasters, or large-scale events that impact the residents. The Office’s official website explains the warning signs of the above occurrences and emergency location points.

Rock County Jail

The Rock County Jail is a medium security correctional facility housing offenders from all of Roc County. This facility is responsible for the security and safety of sentenced and un-sentenced female and male offenders. It operates per the Department of Corrections Administrative Code, the Wisconsin State Statutes, and the United States Constitution.

Rock County Jail is the most extensive prison office in Rock County, arranged on 15 sections of land in metropolitan Janesville. The facility at 200 East US Highway 14, Janesville, WI, 53545 began operating in 1981.

Rock County Inmate Search

Rock County inmate records provide identifying information about individuals incarcerated in the various correction facilities in Rock County. Such facilities usually include county jails, state prisons, and private entities. Information in these records by these correctional facilities typically includes personal details such as names, gender, race, date of birth, mugshots, and physical descriptions. These files also contain administrative information like the location of the jail facility, identification number, and custody status. The Wisconsin open records laws indicate that the general public and interested parties can obtain inmate records upon request.

Generally, offender searches and locators vary depending on where an inmate is. There are numerous authorized inmate locator websites online where you can search for an inmate as long as you have their name and facility location. However, relying on the facility’s official website is advisable for accurate and current inmate information. Here are ways to conduct inmate searches in Rock County:

County Jail Inmate Search

If you are searching for any information regarding an inmate currently housed at the Rick County Jail, you can visit the jail’s official website and search for the inmate search provision. However, this jail does not provide an inmate roster or an inmate locator tool customized for the above purpose. Therefore, calling the jail and inquiring about your incarcerated loved one is always advisable. Remember, the jail staff will require to give the inmate’s full name and identification number alongside other parameters such as age, race, and other physical descriptions.

Like other county jails in Wisconsin, Rock County Jail directs interested parties to utilize VINELink to find an offender under its custody. Typically, VINELink is designed to notify victims of crime and other interested parties about the change in a particular offender’s custody status. You can utilize this service 24 hours a day. You can register online or via phone to receive email or telephone messages notifying you about your inmate of interest.

State Prison Inmate Search

If you cannot find an inmate in the county jail, chances are the jail transfers them to state prison after trial. The Wisconsin Department of Corrections operates all state prisons in Wisconsin. To search for an inmate under this agency’s custody, visit the official website. Usually, you should click “Adult Facilities,” then “General Information,” where you will find the “Locating an Inmate” provision.
