Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, WI

Although the sheriff’s position and powers date back to ancient times, the Wisconsin Constitution established the sheriff’s office in 1939. The Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group (WILEAG) granted full accreditation status to the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office on December 11, 2017, making it the third Wisconsin Sheriff’s office to achieve this coveted position in law enforcement.

The county elected its 43rd sheriff to office, Kurt Picknell, in 2015, its 183rd year of operation. WCSO is located at 1770 County Rd NN, Elkhorn, WI 53121, United States. Its primary aim is to maintain and improve the standard of living in the neighborhood via professional, competent, and effective law enforcement services.

State statutes and the administrative code specify the precise responsibilities of the sheriff, which include the following:

Court Duties

The sheriff must attend the circuit court sitting in the county when it is in session. WCSO also serves or carries out all processes, writs, precepts, and orders issued or made by legitimate authority and presented to the sheriff, either personally or by the undersheriff or deputies.

In addition, it executes summons, orders, or judgments or performs any other action on behalf of the court. It also registers sex offenders visiting the county as per court orders.

Community Services

The office conducts operations to rescue people and recover human remains within the county, where the board permits, in waters over which the county has authority. It offers various services, licenses, and permits, such as:

  • County Civil process and foreclosure services.
  • Fishing permits.
  • Business licenses.
  • Gun and hunting permits.
  • Fingerprinting and background checking.
  • DMV services, such as license plate registration and renewal.
  • Participate in community-based events.

Jail Duties

WCSO assume control and custody of the county-maintained prison and the inmates and keep them either directly or via a deputy or jailer. It also maintains a true and accurate register of all inmates transferred to any jail under the sheriff’s supervision in a register.

This office is also responsible for hiring and recruiting the office and jail staff. In addition, it trains and verifies volunteers to the jail. It also offers transportation services for inmates to and from the court and sometimes to community-based jail programs.

Walworth County Inmate Search

The county has a jail, the Walworth County Jail, a medium-security facility located at 1770 County Road NN PO Box 1004, Elkhorn, WI, 53121, maintained by WCSO and can detain up to 326 inmates and 81 more in the labor camp. It is an adult facility for male and female offenders arrested and charged with violating the Wisconsin state and federal laws and county ordinances as they await court verdicts.

  • Online.
  • By Phone.
  • In-person.

Online

The WCSO updates the online inmate search database regularly. You can find an inmate on this jail roster by offender’s name. If you can find the inmate’s name, it’s either; the inmate booking procedure is not complete, or the individual has not arrived at the jail yet.
